Mr. Kitchens is a partner in Cotten Schmidt & Abbott and focuses his practice in litigation.
Mr. Kitchens has maintained a trial-based practice, beginning primarily in the areas of personal injury,
products liability and medical malpractice.
At Cotten Schmidt & Abbott, Mr. Kitchens’ practice has developed to include a broad
spectrum of litigation areas including commercial disputes, including intellectual property matters,
contractual disputes and building defect litigation, as well as class actions, and other mass tort
actions, including hearing loss claims. Mr. Kitchens has provided representation to the Firm’s
clients in federal and state jurisdictions, and has done so in local and foreign jurisdictions. In
addition, he has served as a docket manager for commercial litigation matters pending in jurisdictions
throughout the United States.
Having served as trial counsel in state and federal actions, Mr. Kitchens understands the need for
aggressive representation of his clients’ interests. Having served in a management role for the
Firm’s clients throughout many jurisdictions across the United States, to individual representation
of corporate clients, Mr. Kitchens also understands and employs the Early Case Assessment, so as to begin
representation based upon a course of action tailored to the individual client’s economic and
corporate needs. Mr. Kitchens’ representation is not simply in providing litigation
services, but in providing counsel based upon the early assessment of matters and exploration of early
alternatives to litigation when appropriate to the facts of the case.
Mr. Kitchens is originally from Monroe, Louisiana, and now resides in Mandeville with his wife, Ceres,
and children, Peyton and Augustus.
