Planning and Zoning
Cotten Schmidt & Abbott is active in the fields of Planning and Zoning. We try to resolve any differences involving our clients on a voluntary, amicable basis.
However, historically, on certain occasions matters require our participating in hearings, often televised, involving planning and zoning issues. One of the most significant achievements of this area of our practice occurred in Lacombe, Louisiana, when one of our partners participated in a planning and zoning hearing in behalf of the then Louisiana Heart Hospital (since renamed to the current Louisiana Medical Center and Heart Hospital). When the owners of the prospective hospital wished to begin plans for conventional construction, they were met by opposition locally from several competing hospitals.
As a result of challenges asserted by those hospitals, a planning and zoning hearing eventually was necessary. At its conclusion, our clients, the owners of the prospective hospital, were allowed to proceed with their plans and the construction of the institution.
