Brenda Hasenzahl is a partner at Cotten Schmidt & Abbott, L.L.P., and concentrates her practice in civil litigation defense.  Prior to joining the Firm in 2001, Ms. Hasenzahl practiced law for two years with an insurance defense firm in Houston, Texas, where she handled all aspects of commercial and corporate litigation. Since joining Cotten Schmidt and Abbott, she continued her practice in general civil litigation, involving the active defense of commercial, toxic tort, premises and products liability cases, in addition to working multiple premises liability dockets.  As part of her litigation practice, she has participated in all aspects of preparing a case for trial, including discovery, depositions, preparing expert witnesses, and motion practice.  She has assisted national counsel for numerous companies involved in asbestos, chemical, and multi-district litigation. She has participated in a jury trial in Tarrant County on behalf of the defense of a national business owner, which resulted in a defense verdict, finding no negligence against her client.  She has assisted in the management of large dockets involving hundreds of cases in multiple counties, and has experience at both the state and federal court level.

Ms. Hasenzahl’s expertise encompasses the management, defense, and resolution of cases involving thousands of claimants for premises defendants and product manufacturers in trial courts throughout the state of Texas.

Beginning  2007, Ms. Hasenzahl was asked to oversee the family law section of her firm, in that business and commercial clients of the firm were requesting assistance with family law related matters.   Ms. Hasenzahl handles referral based high-asset and high-net worth divorce cases, including the review and division of complex retirement accounts, pensions, capital gains, interest income, stocks dividends, and structured settlement and trust accounts. As part of her family law practice, she has handled all matters of litigation, including temporary hearings, depositions, producing subpoenas for business and personal documents, evaluation of assets and debts of personal, business, and commercial property.  Ms. Hasenzahl is trained and certified in Collaborative Family Law, a positive alternative to the traditional litigation method of handling a divorce.
